How Do We Switch Characters In Justice League Heroes, Ps2? Not Just Between Players, But All Available?

On some missions a screen comes up at thwe start of the level allowing you to choose your team(s) of two i think the first one is on gorilla city.
Watch out though on one level you have to choose three teams and i tell you leave the best heroes for the thrd team.
I tried using The Flash and Aquaman (What A Mistake!)

    You can’t only on some levels you can switch characters. but some levels require you to be their choice of player. yeah i know its sucks. but overall the game is ok.
